Travelers passing through Singapore may inadvertantly get caught in the 'transport trap' that happens each day at Changi airport. You see Changi airport is located around 25 minutes from downtown by taxi going full tilt. It isn't close by any means. The airport MRT subway system stops at midnight and doesb't start again till 7am. Taxi's double the fare when the clock strikes midnight and who wants to pay $40-$50 to get to the airport?
If you have a flight leaving at 6am for example, you might consider doing what many other people are already doing, sleep at the airport. With Singapore's strict laws one might think sleeping inside the airport would not be possible. That is not the case. The viewing deck located on the 2nd floor of the international departure lounge becomes a campsite after dark. The airport authorities know about this but turn a blind eye (good on them!). Remember to bring a camping mat and a blanket / sleeping bag / thick jacket etc. as the aircon inside Changi would make a Russian shiver.
If you do not like the idea of camping out with the common folk, here are some great hotels close to Changi Airport.
Changi Village Hotel from $168
Crowne Plaza Hotel Changi Airport from $230
